Sean Casey
Welcome to the Sean Casey Blog
Sean Thomas Casey nicknamed "The Mayor," is a first baseman for the Boston Red Sox. During his tenure in Cincinnati, later in Detroit, and now in Boston, Casey has been regarded as approachable and friendly, and his nickname, "The Mayor", comes from his reputation for chatting casually with every runner who makes it to first base, and from his very public charity work.

Dressing for success

September 28th, 2008

Posted by Sean Casey

So we’re getting ready to jet off to Anaheim, but before we do we have to get one thing straight — there will be (and has been) various levels of ability when it comes to rocking the wardrobe on flights such as these. So, with the help of Jacoby Ellsbury (No. 6 on my list, although it is hard to believe he doesn’t use any hair gel), we break it down in two parts.

In the first segment, we have No. 5 thru 2. And then, in the second segment, comes No. 1, Bradford. The only reason being is that he was going around the clubhouse today collecting checks for the “agreement” he had with various folks regarding the challenge of wearing a jacket and tie for the entire season. The fact he is giving the money to charity (Room To Grow) doesn’t hurt either.

Part 1 …

… and Part 2 (with an astonished Kevin Youkilis)

Cash Money’s Cars

September 5th, 2008

Posted by Sean Casey

Sorry it has been a while, but I really wanted you all to soak in Big Papi’s movie reviews. Good stuff! This entry was done right after our big walk-off win against Baltimore, Wednesday afternoon. Quite a day. Yet through all the excitement one of our catchers, Kevin Cash, still managed to focus in for City Hall and break down his life’s car collection. I’ll be back again Monday. Here it is …

Big Papi at the movies

September 1st, 2008

Posted by Sean Casey

I’ve got two blog entries for you today. The first is an update of my neck injury, which is a lot better. I took some grounders and will be back in batting practice Tuesday. But the initial entry goes on to respond to many, many rebuttals regarding my choice for top three wrestling matches of all-time. After much debate, I am going to give a definitive list …

But I couldn’t pass up giving you this second entry. When you get a chance to get David Ortiz talking about his favorite movies of all-time (Rambo 3?), well, that’s gold …

I’m not the only one

August 30th, 2008

This is a short entry because when you’ve had a day of getting MRI results, going on the disabled list, and all the while not being able to pivot your neck, you just kind of want to move on. But since I am struggling with this ailment it got me to thinking about some other great athletes who have had neck injuries …

I also want to point out that I got the chance to wear Jonathan Papelbon’s new “Cinco Ocho” t-shirt today, which is timely considering the news coming out of Cincinnati (which you check out on my blogging colleague Kirk Minihane’s Late Night Links). More on the t-shirt in the coming days.

See you in a bit …

I’m in the Hall of Fame!

August 26th, 2008

Posted by Sean Casey

It was quite an honor to be part of the festivities at Foley’s today. This I will explain. But let me also say how I’m going to cherish this visit to Yankee Stadium, so much so that I plan on buying first base from Wednesday night’s game. I might be taking a little dirt, also, but we can talk about that later …

Shear Vlogging Genius

August 25th, 2008

Posted by Sean Casey

I liked this video blogging stuff so much I couldn’t wait to do it again. Actually, as you might be able to tell this is the day after my first go-round with the camera, having just gotten a haircut. I was wondering what I should be talking about this time, but then Bradford mentioned something about being inspired by the movie “Commando” when getting a haircut, and that set me off down this path …

By the way, that onlooker at the end of the video is our mental performance coach, Don Kalkstein. You can expect to see him in more than a few cameos along our fantastic blogging journey.
