5 Things that Might Just Interest Me…

5. This link about payment on an overdue bill…

If it could only be that easy! How do the art people make money? I need a big time education on selling art.
4. Brock Lesner becoming the first man to win a Wrestling and UFC Heavyweight Championship.
3. Finding out who’s broadcasting the Patriots game on Sundays.
For someone who only goes to one game a year, Michael Berger finding this website a few weeks ago was huge. I consider who the network selects for an announce team tells me if the NFL thinks it’s a good game. Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf are solid in the booth. As Patriots fans we’ve been spoiled with Jim Nantz and Phil Simms on a near weekly basis.

2. How much Jack Edwards talks…
Chach actually blogged about this last week, but it deems repeating. Jack Edwards talks WAY too much for a TV play by play man. I’m not sure if Andy Brickley is the Remy of hockey and if he is, you’d never know it because he can’t get a word in edgewise. This isn’t Sportscenter, every line out of your mouth doesn’t need to be “cute”, “it’s a shooting gallery out there”. He just sounds fake. I’ll take letting Brickley talk, “up along the dasher boards”, good fight calls and “SCORE!” for the home games any day of the week. (The Boston Globe is 17% share holders of the er.. I mean Jimmy Stewart is one of the producers for the Dale Arnold and Michael Holley Show, heard 10-2 on WEEI.)
1. That the Red Sox might not have gotten enough for Coco Crisp…
Michael Holley and I were debating the value of Coco Crisp during one of the breaks. If Theo says only two teams showed interest in Coco, I tend to believe him. He doesn’t share that kind of information so openly. Peter Gammons blogged about the Reds being the other team that showed interest. I even admit that sometimes I overvalue hometown players, in this case I think Coco Crisp could have brought back a catcher from Texas. I put more value on that, than a right handed pitcher who’s had one REALLY good season in the majors. I defer to the baseball people to prove me wrong.
What Coco will do for the Royals is hit second, slap the ball into the gap producing doubles and triples, run down everything in center and steal 20-30 bases. He has 6 career triples at Royals Stadium, the most in any ballpark. He will help a team that Dayton Moore is trying very hard to improve the Atlanta Braves way.

Wednesday Spotfest Survivor Series Preview!
November 18th, 2008

On Sunday Night the WWE returns to the TD Banknorth Garden for the 22nd edition of the Survivor Series. The Pay Per View was created back in 1987 as a way for the WWF to have Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant compete in the same match without the WWF Heavyweight Championship on the line. In the early years of the event the matches were all tag team 5 on 5 or 4 on 4 elimination format.
This will mark the second time the Survivor Series will be held in Boston. The 1993 event was headlined by a 4 on 4 Survivor style match captained by Lex Luger and Yokozuna. It also marked the beginning of the Owen Hart/Bret Hart feud.
This years event will also complete the Big 5 for WWF(E) Pay Per View held in the TD Banknorth Garden. They’ve prevouisly hosted Wrestlemaina 14, King of the Ring 2000, Royal Rumble 2003 and Summer Slam 2006.
The card for the Thanksgiving Tradition is built around Chris Jericho’s defense of the Raw Title against the returning John Cena. Cena’s neck was injured a few month back in the ring. This will be Cena’s second crack at trying to win a World Championship in his hometown of Boston. Jericho on the other hand is looking at adding John Cena to an impressive list of wrestlers he has beaten in big money matches. Look for Cena to come out on top, with a build toward Batista-Cena 2 at Wrestlemania in Houston, TX.
The Smackdown Championship right now is a one on one battle between Champion, Triple H and the undefeated challenger, Vladmir Kozlov. The wild card might be Jeff Hardy, who if he wins his Smackdown match on Friday Night against Triple H, he will be added to the match, making it a Triple Threat. If Cena is going to regain the Raw Championship, I don’t think the WWE is going to have Hardy or the “Moscow Maller” come out with the title belt.
The Undertaker will take on the Big Show in a Casket Match, where the winner will be the man who can place his opponent inside of the ringside casket and close the lid. This will mark the third pay per view in a row these two have tangled. This will be their rubber match. The Casket match itself was created by the Undertaker and first put on display at the 1994 Survivor Series in Texas. This is one of Takers marque matches, recording 8 victories in 13 matches of this type. This will be the Big Show’s first career. It’s interesting to see if this feud will end with this match or continue forward. Taker and Show could make valid arguments to be moved up to a main event program with Triple H, or whomever leaves Survivor Series with the Heavyweight Championship.
The other two matches currently listed on WWE’s website are 5 on 5 Survivor Series Elimination match ups. One is Team Michaels (Rey Mysterio, The Great Khali and Cryme Tyme) v Team JBL (Kane, MVP, The Miz & John Morrison). The other features Team Batista (R-Truth, ECW Champion Matt Hardy and World Tag Team Champions CM Punk & Kofi Kingston) against Team Orton (Cody Rhodes, Intercontinental Champion William Regal, United States Champion Shelton Benjamin and Mark Henry).
The event will be a fun three hour night of sports entertainment wrestling. Hope to see you there!

A One Pony Race…

Sorry Mike Muttnansky, this isn’t the horse racing blog you’ve been begging for during the WEEI dot com Saturday morning show.
For my money Dustin Pedroia is the American League MVP. We all watch the Red Sox for one hundred sixty two games, plus post season. We are admittedly blinded by his laundry. We see the other games on the World Wide Leader, Saturday game of the Week or if we have the baseball package because the Red Sox aren’t on at the time.
Let’s play Michael Berger’s numbers game and just compare on those alone based on the Top 5 hitting candidates on just offensive numbers.
Player G R H 2B HR RBI SB AVG OBP Advantage
Dustin Pedroia 157 118 213 54 17 83 20 .326 .376 R/H/2B/SB/Avg
Kevin Youkilis 145 91 168 43 29 115 3 .312 .390 None
Josh Hamilton 156 98 198 35 32 130 9 .304 .371 RBI
Justin Morneau 163 97 187 47 23 129 0 .300 .374 Games Played
Carlos Quentin 130 96 136 26 36 100 7 .288 .398 HR/OBP
Just looking at the 9 catagories above, Pedroia is the leader in 5 of them. If you go by that alone he is clearly the American League MVP.
