Sox, Pads deny Coco rumors

DANA POINT, Calif. — Both the Red Sox and Padres are denying a report earlier today in the Tacoma News-Tribune saying that the Sox are offering Coco Crisp for shortstop Khalil Greene. “Totally inaccurate,” said San Diego general manager Kevin Towers from the General Managers Meetings.

Dear Headline Writer: I think the nickname for the Padres is “Pods,” based on the pronunciation, not the spelling. Otherwise, they sound like some kind of athletic equipment, or worse.

Khalil Greene is a great SS however his injuries have caused him to miss every year except 07. From 04-06 he played in 139,121,121 and just 105 in 08. Jeter has played less than 148 games once in the 13 seasons. I think SS is such a critical postion that durability should be weighted into the decision. We should try to get Hanley back…

I’m not much interested in ‘who’ the Red Sox pick up this year for SS. After we witnessed the demise of Garciaparra - and then saw what Cabrera accomplished…I wonder what the Red Sox were expecting? Santaria and then Lugo? I’d been happier keeping Cabrera. The SS position is too important to keep playing playing musical chairs at that position. I hope Epstein has learned that by now. I agree with Gary Fayard…Greene is good…but what about his durablity? Hanley will cost too much and Jeter is not a spring chicken. Who is in the minors that jumps out?

I say the sox should bring Nomah back. He can play 3 infield positions and has a better bat than lugie. this allows Lowerie to hone his skills at Pawtucket.Besides I personally would love to see number 5 back!

Dude … Nomar at SS??? Are you serious? Can’t live in the past. It’s time to get a shortshop for now and the future. Not Nomar…not Lugo…not Greene…definitely not Jeter. Maybe Lowrie, some day. Theo needs to work this off-season to find that answer at SS.
